Tuesday:You depart from Cape Town and travel to Worcester via Du Toit's Kloof Mountain pass. At Worcester you visit the fascinating open air museum, a live and interesting exhibition dedicated to the farming community. Lunch is arranged at a restaurant in Montagu. You then travel through the mountains to the Little Karoo. Changing scenery from lush farmland to semi-desert areas, makes this a day of surprises. A warm welcome awaits you from the staff of the Riempies Estate Hotel where you overnight. Wednesday: Awake to the freshness of the Karoo air. After a good breakfast you will visit the world famous Cango Caves in Oudtshoorn, where you take a fascinating guided tour lasting over an hour. You set off to the Crocodile and Cheetah farm, to see these prehistoric reptiles and cats. Even more fascinating is the Highgate Ostrich farm where you stop for a tour and lunch. The afternoon brings you over the mountains, through George and Wilderness en route to Knysna. Your overnight stay is on the water's edge at the Knysna Quays Hotel.
Thursday: After a leisurely breakfast you will have some time to spend on your own in the quaint village of Knysna. Alternatively your guide will take you to the Garden of Eden to show you the heart of the Garden Route. Late morning you set sail on the Knysna Lagoon aboard a private catamaran.
Sailing is one of the traditional modes of transport in this area and you will be able to enjoy a spectacular view of the area before you return to Knysna for lunch. You then join a real steam train* which travels along one of the world's most picturesque rail routes to George. After arrival in George your guide will transfer you to the King George Hotel. Sleep well after a full and exciting day. Friday: After breakfast, you depart for Mossel Bay along the scenic coastal route. At Mossel Bay you visit the historic Post Office Tree where early navigators left mail for the homebound ships to Europe. The route to Swellendam is via farmlands and rolling hills. Swellendam is full of romantic history. In the afternoon your route takes you through charming Hermanus, seaside retreat of the wealthy and famous. You arrive back in Cape Town after four fabulous days!
